Stacey Foisy has been a part of the Greenleaf Art Center for about four years. About seven years ago, after years of collecting art and curating several shows for her former career as a Gerontologist, Stacey fell in love with painting.
Stacey describes herself as a process painter, saying “I paint from my head.”
Though her work is always growing and shifting, her interest in the “lone figure” has remained constant. She intentionally obscures what is happening in the painting as well as the gender of her figures. She finds lone figures powerful and intriguing as they grant such interpretation.
Her favorite artists are part of the Bay Area Figurative Movement, such as Nathan Olivera, David Park, Paul Wonner, Joan Brown, and Richard Diebekorn. She is also inspired by Franz Klein and Willem De Kooning.
Of her featured pieces, “Breakdown” is Stacey’s newest piece. This work represents her current movement toward creating abstract paintings using only a pallet knife. She is excited to continue this new technique of using only a pallet knife in her work to come.
